Privacy Policy

This policy explains what Miel collects, why we need it, and what you can do about it. It is written to match what the product actually does today.

Draft for review. Sections marked DRAFT need the legal entity, registered address and retention decisions before this page is published.

Who is responsible

DRAFT: DRAFT: legal entity name to be confirmed, DRAFT: registered address to be confirmed. Contact: legal@miel.events.

What we collect

Account data: your email address and the sign-in method you used. If you sign in with Google or Apple we receive your email address and, where available, your name.

Profile data: the first name other guests see, your age, your city, an optional short introduction, your preferred language, and a record that you confirmed you are 18 or older.

Preference data: who you would like to meet and which kinds of evening you want to hear about. This can reveal sexual orientation, which is special category data under Article 9 of the GDPR. We only process it with your explicit, separate consent, and it is stored apart from the rest of your account.

Event data: which evenings you booked, whether you attended, which rounds you were seated in, your yes or no answer after each conversation, and any reports you file or that are filed about you.

Why we process it

To provide the service you asked for, which is a seat at a scheduled evening. This is contractual necessity under Article 6(1)(b).

To match and seat you, using your preference data. This relies on your explicit consent under Article 9(2)(a), which you give separately from these terms and can withdraw at any time.

To keep the room safe and investigate reports. This is our legitimate interest under Article 6(1)(f), and where reports concern illegal content we also act under the Digital Services Act.

Who can see what

Hosts and city managers can see attendee names, city and round assignments so they can run the evening. They cannot see your preference data or your orientation.

Other guests see your first name, age, city and introduction during a round. They see your yes or no answer only when both of you said yes.

DRAFT: the list of processors, such as the hosting provider, video provider and payment provider, will be completed once those contracts are in place.

How long we keep it

DRAFT: retention periods need your decision. Our proposal is account data for as long as the account exists, event and match records for twelve months after the event, and safety reports for the period required to handle repeat conduct.

Your rights

You can access, correct, export and delete your data, object to processing, and withdraw consent at any time. Withdrawing your preference consent deletes your preference data immediately.

Deleting your account removes your profile, preferences, bookings and match history. You can do this yourself from your account settings.

You can complain to your national data protection authority. In the UK this is the Information Commissioner's Office.

Reporting illegal content

Use the report form for content you believe is illegal. Our legal point of contact is legal@miel.events.
